Capitol Reef National Park, UT

Another wonderful national park
in Utah!

"The Fluted Wall"
Appropriately so named since it
resembles the flutes on pie dough.

"The Castle"
This is made up of fractured
Wingate Sandstone perched upon
grey Chinle and red
Moenkopi Formations.

Rocks come is many shapes and sizes.
Bill calls this the Cobra.

Too interesting not to take.

Capitol Dome reminded early
travelers of the US Capitol building
and later inspired the name
of the park.

I call this the Swiss Cheese rock
which was formed by erosion.
It makes for lovely natural
bird houses.

The Waterpocket Fold appears as a
formidable barrier to travel,
much like a barrier reef in
an ocean.

Traveling west, we found snow at
9600 feet!

Still surprised to see snow in May!
