Nashville, Tennessee

To celebrate its 100th year as a state, Tennessee
had an impressive exhibition in Nashville. The centerpiece
was a full size replica of the Parthenon in Athens.

This is the mosaic ceiling over the entrance.

The Parthenon was built during the Golden Age
of Greece 2,500 years ago. Great men like
Socrates and Aristotle would have visited
this temple. Today we can add to that prestigious
group Bill, "The Thinker".

Here, "The Thinker" admires the tapering
Doric columns.

The Parthenon is considered to be "the most
beautiful building ever conceived".

Here I am in a silly moment of
hide and seek!

The sculptures over the entrances
are called freezes. During one of the wars
before WW I, the Turks stored gun powder in
the Parthenon. The gun powder exploded and left
the building badly damaged. The sculptures
in the freeze were taken to England in two ships,
one os which sank.

A view of downtown Nashville. The tallest building
is the A T & T Building.

This is the US Customs House in Nashville.
Due to the flooding in early May, we were unable
to visit the Opryland venues. They had 31 inches
of rain and it badly damaged many of the buildings.
