Crater Lake National Park, OR: 8-1-11

Welcome to Crater Lake National Park, OR.

Bill is standing in front of our cabin next to
a pole that is used to measure the depth of the snow
and the width of the street. The pole is over 16' tall.

The breath taking blue of Crater Lake.

The lake is 1,946 feet deep.

Wizard Island.
No, Harry Potter does not live here!

660,000 years ago Mt. Mazama blew its top.
It then collapsed, forming a crater.
Rain and snow have filled the crater to within
a thousand feet of the rim.
Wizard Island, that you see here, is a mini-volcano
that formed after Mt. Mazama erupted.

Bill decided to have a "cooling experience"!

"The will to survive."

You can see that there is still snow by the shore line.

When I poked at the snow, I found it was ice.
The park had just over 56 feet of snow this past winter.
One of the roads in the park is still not passable.

Another artsy fartsy picture:
Lava rock, mountain flowers and old
natural tree sculpture.

The Happy Travelers!

A parting shot of Crater Lake.

The Pinnacles.
