Entering Louisiana

Taken from our second story balcony in Biloxi, MS.
The Beau Rivage behind me is a casino.

I found this short palm variety quite interesting.

This is the beach between Biloxi and Gulfport, MS.
You can rent rent swamp buggies here.

Looking toward Gulfport in the distance.
Gulfport is where Katrina made landfall
in August of 2005.

There is still a great deal of rebuilding going on
along the Gulf coast.  State and federal laws
require houses to be raised above the flood level
of Katrina.  These are concrete and steel pilings
that will support a new house.

Cowan Bayou just before entering Louisiana
on Route 90 West.

Made it to Louisiana!

We stopped for lunch at the Hi Tide Bar and Grill
in Slidell.  There is a gentleman who has done
painting in and outside that is incredibly unique.
This is just a small taste of his work.  The
ceiling, walls, tables, bathrooms and ice machine
are covered with his paintings.
