South Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, CO

A calm morning on Blue Mesa
Reservoir.

Closeup of the pontoon boat from the
previous picture.  Note the fine
ripples on the water.

Reflections on the water of
white rock formations.

Welcome to the Black Canyon of the
Gunnison National Park, CO.
We explored the north rim a
few days ago.  This is the
south rim.

Check out the steep canyon walls!
The Gunnison River is at the bottom.

This rock formation truly shows
the sheer drop to the bottom.

"Painted Rock"

Looking west through the Gunnison Canyon.

If you look carefully, you can see a
winding road that will take us to
the bottom of the canyon.

Here we are at the bottom!  It is
called the Black Canyon due to
the amount of volcanic rock.

Another view from the bottom.

The Gunnison River flowing
along the bottom of the canyon.
This is a favorite area to fish.

This is one of many diversionary dams.
