Lake Mead, NV

Lake Mead, NV.  It was the first national
recreational area preserve.

Our first view of Lake Mead.

Bill decided to treat me to a cruise of the lake.
The level of the lake has dropped about 100 feet.
You can tell this by the white area that is called
the bathtub ring.

Some of the beautiful scenery we saw from the boat.
Your truly climbed two flights of stairs to get to the third
deck to be outside in the bow of the boat!

We got to see Hoover Dam that was finished in 1936.
The new Memorial Bridge can be seen behind the
dam.

More lovely scenery on our return to dock.

Here you see the four intake towers that deliver
water to the 17 water turbines that produce
electricity.

The bathtub ring is easily seen here.  The dam
is on the Colorado River.

When Lake Mead reaches its capacity the excess
water flows this overflow and around the dam.
That has not happened since 1943.

Took this from the Lake Mead Overlook.
It was from this marina we took our cruise.
