Mojave Desert Preserve, CA

Welcome!

The landscape and flora of the Mojave Desert.

The black rock is volcanic.  I like the contrast
against the blue sky.

Kelso Sand Dunes.

This hawk was looking for its lunch.

I'm a happy girl to finally have the sun
on my face after days of cold, wind and rain!
Our first look at a Joshua Tree.

I call this a regal Joshua Tree.

This 60 foot thermometer greets
travelers on the way to Death Valley
showing the temperature in the Valley.
We found this is Baker, CA.

CA seems to be ahead of the curve in terms of
developing alternative types of electricity.

Ground mounted mirrors, called heliostats, collect
solar energy and focus it on a central tower.  Here Bill
is pointing to three such towers, where molten salt
is circulated.  The heated salt goes down to power
a steam turbine, which generates electricity.

We have arrived in NV!

A beautiful group of Joshua Trees.
