Finally! The sun returned after five days.
These are the Spanish Peaks as seen from
Walsenburg, CO.
Another set of snow covered peaks on Rt. 160 W.
I thought this was pretty cool with the way the
cloud looks like it is steam coming from a volcano.
Just after the North La Veta Pass on Rt. 160 W.
We were at 9413 feet. I love that clear
blue Colorado sky!
We found this store in Fort Garland.
No, we did not go in to buy any.
This was our second time here. The first time
it was in the pouring rain.
The Great Sand Dunes back up to the
Sangre de Cristo (blood of Christ)
Mountains.
Welcome!
Look for the little "dots" behind Bill's head
and his right shoulder. Those are people
climbing the dunes!
Closeup of the "dots".
Count them. There are twelve people!
Taken from the Pinyon Flats in the park.
The trees are pinyon pines.
Star Dune on the left is 755 feet.
High Dune in the middle is 699 feet.
The kids like to surf down the dunes
using sand boards.
As we are leaving the Dunes, in the background
are the San Juan Mountains. Here we come,
Alamosa!
