Gunnison, CO Part 2

The mountain valleys are busy with cattle
and horses.  This is along Rt. 114.

Abundant grass and water help to raise healthy
animals like these horses.

Approaching North Pass with an elevation of 10,149
feet.  Bill checks to see if we need to put chains on!

Had to take this sign for my friend in the church
office who has family here.  We stopped briefly
to get a few goods in a small store.

This is an excellent picture of virga.
Virga is rain that does not touch the ground
due to the dry conditions.  Thanks to Cecily
Tynan and Adam Joseph from Channel 6 in
Philadelphia for teaching me so much!

This was where we had a bite to eat for lunch.
I am going to miss these mountains!

On Poncha Pass, elevation 9,019 feet, we hit
grapple.  Grapple is soft hail and snow pellets.
They look like little styrofoam balls.  The tops
of mountains have their own weather.

Made it to Monarch Pass with an elevation
11,312 feet.  Here is was snowing like crazy!
Snow in some areas is piled high at 12 feet.
