Amarillo, Texas

In western Oklahoma the land became flatter and dryer.

We came across this oil derrick on Interstate 40 in
Oklahoma. This is used to drill a new well. After
completion, it is torn down and a pump is
installed to pump up the oil.

We were happy to see a wind farm in Oklahoma!

This part of the country is called red clay country.
It is so similar to the red rock found in Colorado.

Finally! We found a sign on our way out of Oklahoma.

We are now ready for our Texas adventure.

We entered the town of Shamrock looking for a place
to have lunch. This closed gasoline station is
an example of art deco. Note the old gasoline pumps
and the ornate decorations on the building.

Texas sage brush.

Allenreed, TX - population of 52.
This building houses the food and liquor store, gift shop,
post office, laundry and showers to accomodate
truckers. It is located on historic Route 66.

The wide open spaces of the Texas Great Plains.

I was in North Texas and outside Oklahoma City the last week of April. I didn't take a single picture. You found the beauty, all I saw was tiny trees and dust!
